It’s not exactly “DLC”, but it is free; an update is headed to Super Mario Maker on November 4 and includes the ability to add checkpoints to your handcrafted levels, item progression (Infendo’s Eugene Allen called this one in episode 33 of the podcast), a harder version of Gnat Attack, and 2 new places to go in Play mode; under Makers, you will be able to check out Nintendo-made levels using the “Official” tab.
And finally, an “Event” button will turn up in the Course World. Event levels are ones made by “partner creators outside Nintendo.” One of the first that will become available is “Ship Love”, the winning level from the Facebook hackathon event. Nintendo teases that event levels “may even feature new Mystery Mushroom transformations.”
Checkpoints are possibly the most anticipated update for Super Mario Maker, but do you still feel something is missing? Let us know what in a comment below.
