I grew up a Nintendo fan, but one with lots of older and younger siblings. We didn’t get every game there was, not even close. I only remember playing a small handful of NES games growing up: Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, World Class Track Meet…and possibly a few others.
That’s where the idea for Retro Redux came from. I wanted to go down to the famous 80’s roots of this company we know and love, Nintendo. I wanted to experience as many NES games as I could, matching the original experiences as closely as possible. I wanted you, the readers, to be involved in the experiment through comments and votes.
That’s the core of Retro Redux. Forget everything else you think you know about it, because those things are changing. Retro Redux is going to be simpler, easier to follow, and more focused on games. I still won’t be writing “reviews” on NES games, but I am nixing “report cards.” Posts you can look forward to in the near and distant future include:
- Recently Played: Mega Man
- Playing Now: The Battle of Olympus
- Playing Next: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Reader votes will continue to take place, though I don’t have one for you today. Reader recommendations are welcome any time, however, so if there’s an NES game you love, name it in the comments below!
