A solid 2.5-minute video on Nintendo’s YouTube channel has revealed an upcoming addition to the amiibo family: Shovel Knight. This amiibo represents the first character from an indie game to join the hugely sought after line of figurines. The video is presented by the popular YouTubers at GameGrumps in skit form. They show that the amiibo will unlock a two-player co-op mode in the Wii U version of Shovel Knight, plus customizable gear and new challenge stages in the Wii U and 3DS versions.
An update released on the Yacht Club Games website reveals even more detail on the amiibo’s function:
- Some kind of “new cooperative moves” will be usable in the co-op mode.
- A leveling system will be put into place in both versions.
- New relics will be unlocked.
No release date or pre-order/retailer information has been revealed at this time.
