Just thought I’d take a break from playing Mega Man to post the many things that need posting today! As some of you may know, the first vote for the relaunch of Retro Redux took place in episode 4 of the NintendoFever Podcast. Those who listened in were able to vote on one of four NES games (Dragon Warrior, Tecmo Bowl, Rygar, or Mega Man) while simultaneously entering themselves in a $20 eShop download code giveaway. With the contest now closed, two winners have been decided: Mike F. won the giveaway and Mega Man won the vote! To everyone who participated, though, thank you so much!
So, on to business! I’ve spent some of the morning playing the downloadable Wii U version of Mega Man for the NES. You might remember that NES Quest Rule #1 was that I have to replicate the original experiences of playing an NES as closely as possible. I’m afraid it wasn’t practical to pay for an original Mega Man cartridge online ($50 and upwards for a working copy), but don’t worry: I won’t be taking much advantage of the Wii U virtual console’s features. For example, I could easily create a restore point right here, which is where I’m kinda stuck at the moment, but I won’t:
I’ll get past it eventually, though, and if I have to start the stage over again a few times, no big deal. I promised a certain friend I’d beat the game before posting a full-on report card, so we’ll see if I can make that happen!
Today marks the beginning of a new NES Quest vote, so here are your options this time around:
- Recommended by Justin Riley, Adventure Island II
- Recommended by Mike McSurdy, Adventure Island
- Recommended by Janush, The Battle of Olympus
- Recommended by Janush, Double Dragon II: The Revenge
So leave a comment below with your vote! You have until Wednesday morning to do so (no specific end time this round). Also, if you have any favorite NES games you would like to recommend for future votes, leave those as well. Oh, and if you’re curious about how I chose the list of four games you see above, behold:
Yep, some folded-up pieces of paper in a decorative mug (that a friend made for me, I’ll have you know). Alright, see you next time!
